Handbrake is a free and open-source transcoder for digital video files. With Handbrake, you can:
- convert videos from any format using multiple different platforms
- compress large video files to make them more easily shareable
- extract clips of a DVD that you own (Note: You can freely copy DVDs and CDs to your devices as long as you own the discs and use the files for your own use. Uploading the files to Youtube or Torrent sites is definitely illegal.)
In order to use Handbrake you will need to have downloaded the application from the Handbrake website to your computer. Use the Handbrake Quick Start Guide as a resource to begin the process.
