Importing Media from a Digital Camcorder

Canon XA10 camcorders are available for check-out at the Davis circulation desk.

Importing the media to a computer:

  1. Plug the USB cord into the right-hand side of the camcorder and into the computer (back of the lab’s Mac computers)
  2. Make sure that the camcorder is ON
  3. Press the camera/play button on the left side of the camcorder once connected to the computer
  4. Select “Build-in Mem.” on the camcorder’s screen for connection
  5. A CANON file should appear on the mac’s desktop. Double click on it
  6. Right-Click on AVCHD and select show package contents
  7. Right-Click on BDMV and select show package contents
  8. Open Stream folder. This is where you will find your media.  
  9. To save the media, make sure to drag it onto your desktop or place it into your own folder. And you’re set!

Importing Media from a Digital Camcorder onto iMovie

  1. Plug the USB cord into the right-hand side of the camcorder and into the computer (back of the lab’s mac computers)

  6. Right-Click on AVCHD and select show package contents
  7. Right-Click on BDMV and select show package contents
  8. Open Stream folder. This is where you will find your media
  9. Drag desired media onto desktop to make it easier to locate
  10. Open iMovie
  11. Click on Import Media
  12. Select Desktop and select the media you’d like to use
