Panopto Video Content Tool

Panopto is a video and audio storage service that allows you to upload, edit, store and share video and audio files with varying levels of privacy settings. Panopto can also be a very powerful tool to use for video lecture and video annotation.

All Middlebury faculty, staff and students have access to Lynda.

Access

To log into your account:

  1. Go to go.middlebury.edu/panopto
  2. Click the Sign-in button at the top right of your screen.
  3. Choose Middlebury Single Sign-in.
  4. You will be redirected to a Middlebury login page. Enter your Middlebury credentials (@middlebury.edu email address and password).

This will take you to your personal home page. You will see any videos that have been shared with you or that you have uploaded.

Use

Panopto works the way that many video storage and streaming services work (such as Vimeo and YouTube). You can record, upload media, prepare and share a live webcast, and you can create a presentation that combines slides and video.

Recording in Panopto

  1. Open Panopto and sign in. At the top of your main page, click “Create”.
  2. Choose “Record a New Session”.
  3. If you haven’t already, you’ll want to download the Panopto client to your computer.
  4. The Panopto client will open the interface for a new recording. There are a number of settings you can play with in this interface. Here’s a quick tutorial to give you an overview.

Upload Media

  1. Open Panopto and sign in. At the top of your main page, click “Create”.
  2. Choose “Upload Media”.
  3. In the window that opens, select the folder you want to upload media to.
  4. Choose video or audio files and upload.

Media Services Generated Panopto Folders

This section is Institute (MIIS) specific.

For convenience and reduction of outdated media formats, Media Services @ MIIS can share media files (video and audio) recorded in classrooms with their equipment via Panopto. For example, in a class where student presentations are recorded and used instructionally for self, peer, and instructor feedback, Media Services can upload recordings to a shared Panopto folder.

Questions?

Recording and uploading media is just the beginning. There is a lot you can do with Panopto (including using it with Canvas!).
