A gentle tremor, unseen hand,
Whispers through my soul’s soft land.
A melody, faintest note,
In chambers once serene, remote.
A blush of light, where shadows played,
A starburst born, where darkness stayed.
A hummingbird hums, wings unfurled,
Unfolding tales in a secret world.
Laughter ripples, breaks the hush,
A sunbeam dances, warm as blush.
Words take flight, on wings of trust,
Two hearts collide, in whispered dust.
Time bends, a river’s silver thread,
Weaving futures, hearts are wed.
Fragile hopes, on blossoms spun,
Drunk on moonlit kisses, under one.
The world ablaze, a vibrant dance,
Each touch a whispered circumstance.
Woven chords, a soaring tune,
Falling, falling, into moon.
So let me fall, forevermore,
Into depths your eyes adore.
In your embrace, a world complete,
Two souls adrift, in love’s sweet heat.
I asked Google’s Bard to write a poem about falling in love. The above poem was pieced together from the original prompt as well as several follow-ups asking it to improve different aspects. Overall, I was impressed with the results. Bard successfully implemented a AABB rhyme scheme, and used varied and engaging imagery. However, the poem tends to be formulaic: 20 of the 24 lines can be described as “two ideas separated by a comma.” This was the thing I asked it to improve: “Can you use a different meter?” It edited the poem and claimed to use anapestic trimeter in the edited version, but it hadn’t actually changed the meter. I tried asking it a couple of different ways after that to no avail. Finally, I asked it to rewrite the line “Falling, falling, into moon”. It was not able to correctly identify which line I meant and it rewrote some other lines instead. To sum up, Bard did better than I was expecting on the original prompt, but had limited success in revising its work.
