Please join us for the first Teaching Online and Hybrid Conversation Series event of Spring 2022!
In this session, we’ll dig into a ubiquitous, and taken-for-granted, part of syllabi: required attendance and course participation grades. Why do we have attendance and participation policies? Are attendance and participation grades equitable? What does participation look like in hybrid and online courses, and how do we assess it? (What are we trying to measure, and are we succeeding at measuring that?) How can I make attendance and participation grades more transparent and equitable (or should I get rid of them altogether)?
Join us to think through these questions, share your experiences, and brainstorm ideas for redesigning our course attendance and participation policies.
About the Teaching Online & Hybrid Conversation Series
DLINQ has convened the Teaching Online and Hybrid Conversation Series (TOHCS) since Fall 2018. Originally conceived of as a way to prepare faculty to take advantage of emerging opportunities to design online and hybrid courses and programs, the goal of the series is to help faculty explore and address both pedagogical and technical issues related to intentionally designing online and hybrid courses that reflect good practices in online learning, as well as Middlebury’s unique approaches to teaching and learning.
In the COVID era, we see the TOHCS as a place where faculty can come together in a learning community focused on continuing conversations and peer support around online teaching and learning.
You can find information and artifacts from earlier events in the conversation series archived on our Teaching Hybrid & Online page.
