June 17 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

This event is held online via Zoom

Led by Dr. Thor Sawin, Associate Dean of Curriculum for the Language Schools, this workshop offers concrete strategies on integrating AI tools into immersive language instruction.  All activities presented will be in the context of the Language Pledge.  The focus is on activities that will help learners enhance – rather than outsource or replace –  their personal language acquisition.  We will practice using OpenAI to

  • Provide more detailed and individualized feedback to language learners
  • Create materials for inductive learning of vocabulary, grammar, and pragmatics
  • Explore language variation
  • Raise learners’ awareness of register and genres
  • Generate useful vocabulary lists for topics and texts
  • Develop noticing and editing skills

You will leave equipped with practical activities to train learners on for all language levels, as well as ideas for making your own feedback provision and lesson planning a little easier.
