The two primary technologies at Middlebury that you will use to manage your digital courses and content are Course Hub and Canvas. Alternatives to Canvas that are supported by Middlebury include Middlebury Sites (ITS supported) and MiddCreate (DLINQ supported), which are both WordPress-based, self-service, website creation spaces.
Course Hub
Course Hub is the starting point for accessing official course information and for provisioning digital resources for classes. Access course descriptions, schedules, and rosters, and also provision digital resources like course websites (Canvas or WordPress), digital media sharing (Panopto), collaboration and file sharing tools (Office 365 or Google Drive), or library E-reserves for classes.
Canvas
Canvas is Middlebury’s learning management system, and is used widely by faculty and students. Faculty can provision Canvas sites via Course Hub. Please note that Canvas sites are not created automatically for courses.
Middlebury Canvas course sites also include a new toolset called DesignPlus that allows faculty to design their own templates, as well as enhance the visual design and usability of their courses without needing advanced computer coding skills. Alternatives to Canvas
Alternatives to Canvas that are supported by Middlebury include Middlebury Sites and MiddCreate. Middlebury Sites is a Middlebury-ITS-managed, WordPress-based platform for creating e-portfolios, blogs, and course or club websites. MiddCreate is also a WordPress-based platform, but is managed by DLINQ and offers more flexibility than Sites, allowing the creator to choose their own WordPress theme and self-manage their site. With both Sites and MiddCreate, faculty, staff, and students can create online learning spaces for courses, writing, self-expression, digital games, portfolios, and more.
