Chilly Monterey Summers – A Sonnet

In Monterey’s embrace, where breezes meet the bay,
A summer unfolds in coastal gray,
Mists weave through cypress, tales they do implore,
A sonnet sung by winds in steady roar.

Beneath the overcast sky, a temperate kiss,
The cool caress of ocean currents, amiss,
Through days that linger, touched by coastal breeze,
In Monterey, where cold defines the seas.

Fog tendrils waltz on waves of chilly hue,
A ballet with the sun, a muted view,
The air is laden with the ocean’s mist,
As seagulls soar, in the coolness they persist.

Monterey’s summer, mild and cool in kind,
A sonnet sung with a brisk coastal wind.

I asked ChatGPT to make a sonnet describing the unusual weather in the summer in Monterey. It initially came out a little too romantic, so I asked it to remove some of the romantic language and modify it so I could send it to prospective students who are always shocked at how cold it is here in the summers.

I didn’t edit it, mostly for lack of time, but it’s not bad!
