Robert Frost and Bard meet at Breadloaf

I used this prompt in Bard:

“I am a student in a class learning how to use artificial intelligence. I am also an alum of Middlebury College. Please write a poem for me about Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf Campus that captures the beauty of the meadow and forested trails that lead from the meadow.”

Here is Bard’s output:

“In emerald embrace, the Bread Loaf meadow sleeps,
Sunlight dappled dreams where clover softly weeps.
A canvas stitched with wildflowers, vibrant, bold,
Where stories bloom in colors yet untold.

From grassy cradle, wooded pathways rise,
Each twist and turn a whispered green surprise.
Sun-kissed leaves dance on branches overhead,
Casting fleeting shadows where secrets tread.

Through moss-dappled hush, a brooklet weaves its song,
Echoing whispers where echoes don’t belong.
Sunlight lingers, dappling fern and frond,
Nature’s cathedral, whispering beyond.

On wind-kissed crests, where mountain meets the sky,
Panoramic beauty paints the soul’s reply.
Breathtaking vistas, painted vast and wide,
Where every vista hides a world inside.

Those forested paths, a labyrinth of green,
Whispering wisdom secrets evergreen.
Each step a verse, a rhyme beneath the bough,
Where nature’s language teaches us somehow.

So step into the meadow, where wonder calls,
Let wooded trails unfurl their verdant walls.
For Bread Loaf whispers lessons, soft and grand,
In meadow’s heart, and forest’s sheltering hand.

May learning’s journey, like these winding trails,
Unfold new wonders, whispered on the gales.
And may the spirit of Bread Loaf, wild and free,
Forever echo in your memory.”

I was a Nordic skier back in the day, so I spent my fair share of time at Rikert and on the ski trails. I remember the first time I put my skis on and went for that quick little ski in the meadow before entering the wooded trail system. As such, I particularly liked these lines that Bard generated: “So step into the meadow, where wonder calls, Let wooded trails unfurl their verdant walls.”

As for “learning’s journey”, I guess that’s what we’re all on in this class as we learn to “unfold the new wonders” of AI.

The submitted image was created with Bing Copilot in Microsoft Edge. Apparently, Bing incorporates Dall E3 at the moment when generating an image generation request. I wouldn’t say the Dall E3 nailed what I was after.
