Who benefits?
OpenAI and other companies. The article is covering Altman’s prediction that OpenAI will be able to developing artificial general intelligence with 2025 and the unknown but potential impact on business: “We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents ‘join the workforce’ and materially change the output of companies.”
Presumably, OpenAI benefits as do companies who can utilize the AI agents described. If used for good, perhaps society in general could benefit but the article draws closer associations with “the singularity” and its potential catastrophic effects.
Benefits could include new research and branches of science that could benefit humankind
What concerns does this bring up?
This is a higher level of AI beyond LLMs, specifically “Superintelligent tools could massively accelerate scientific discovery and innovation well beyond what we are capable of doing on our own, and in turn massively increase abundance and prosperity.”
The concerns are that we’ll cross a line where controlling AGI is no longer possible and that it can exist and create without human involvement.
