Digital Storytelling with Pressbooks or WordPress

November 3, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

Join us for an exploration of WordPress and Pressbooks as platforms for sharing digital stories and research. Pressbooks is built on a WordPress platform, but is more highly templatized, allowing you to create and share fiction or research in a book-like form, incorporating multiple media and easily generating web, PDF, and/or e-book versions of your work. WordPress involves a little steeper learning curve than Pressbooks but also offers more flexibility, allowing you to build out full interactive websites based on themes and plugins you choose, and designs you or your students create. With WordPress, you can even generate a multisite that incorporates all your students’ individual websites into one administrative home base. At this workshop, we’ll walk through the basics of setting up a Middlebury Pressbooks or WordPress account, along with a general overview of how to work in each platform and what levels of sharing each offers. We’ll also talk about the differences between choosing Middlebury’s Sites Dot versus Middcreate platforms for generating your WordPress site. Bring your digital storytelling activities, ideas, and questions with you!

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Axinn Center for the Humanities. The workshop is designed for, but not limited to, instructors teaching Public Humanities Labs classes.
