**This session is being led by DLINQ’s Dr. Amy Collier, Dr. Sarah Lohnes Watulak, and Dr. Jeni Henrickson as part of the free IDEATE salon discussion series hosted by the Online Learning Consortium.**
Session abstract from the OLC Ideate website: “As Amy Collier notes, “We in higher education need to seriously consider how we think about and handle student data, and we need to respectfully and empathetically acknowledge where our practices may cause harm.” In this session, participants will discuss questions such as, What does it mean to frame privacy as an equity concern? How does framing privacy as an equity concern show care for students? How do we approach principled discussions about edtech and online learning in times of emergency? We’ll also share our experience leading CryptoParties and Digital Detoxes, and highlight sometimes hidden privacy flaws that lurk in edtech (using Zoom as illustration). The goal of the session is to identify small steps we can take to bring privacy back into our course design plans, and begin co-creating “recipes for privacy” that include related resources that can be shared widely.”
