MIIS Tech Kitchen: Exploring Extended Reality (XR) Tools for Place-Based Education & Digital Storytelling

February 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm PST

Start time in your time zone: Your time zone couldn't be detected. Try reloading the page.

Co-sponsored by DLINQ and the Collaborative for Conflict Transformation

Join us for a special pop-up “Tech Kitchen” with special guest Daniel Kinzer, Crew Member with Hōkūleʻa and the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Lead Expedition Guide at Pacific Blue Studios and Community Technologist at Purple Maiʻa Foundation in the Hawaiian Islands. Dan will share stories of how youth and their communities have been bringing their places of learning to life using fairly common and accessible tools like GoPros, iPads, smartphones and drones to build Extended Reality (XR) environments with representations of their stories, tools and places of exploration. See the 3D story maps theyʻve built as a place to gather and deepen their learning about the natural and cultural places most important to their communities, and learn about the different tools and practices they are experimenting with. Could the local and global MIIS community imagine building something like it?

Come share your experience and thoughts about community-inspired, place-based learning and digital storytelling!

Light refreshments for those joining in person sponsored by the Davis Collaborative in Conflict Transformation.
