During this workshop, we’ll demo and discuss some of the most popular Middlebury-supported tools for active and engaging learning:

  • StoryMaps: a web-based story-authoring application that allows you to easily integrate maps alongside narrative text and other multimedia content.
  • Panopto: a video and audio storage service that allows you to upload, edit, store and share video and audio files. Panopto can be a powerful tool to use for video lecture, and also allows you to create quizzes right within a video.
  • Hypothes.is: brings discussion directly to course content by enabling students and teachers to add comments and start conversations in the margins of texts. Collaborative annotation engages students more deeply in course readings and gives teachers a view into how students are reading.

We’ll show examples of these tools in use and give you a chance to consider how you might use these tools in your teaching.
